AILTC – Clarification regarding return journey

Sub: AILTC – Clarification regarding return journey.
Ref: Board’s letter No. E(W)2017/PS5-1/3 dated 10.09.2018.
Clarifications are being sought by some Railways as to whether return journey while availing AILTC can be performed in the year following the respective Calendar Year.
2. The issue has been examined. Under the LTC Scheme, while it is mandatory to commence onward journey on or before 31st December of the Calendar year, return journey can be performed in the following Calendar Year. In terms of instructions contained in Board’s letter cited under Ref.(i) above, AILTC on surrender of Privilege Passes has been permitted in accordance with the CCS(LTC) Rules-1988, as modified from time to time. Accordingly, it is clarified that Railway Servants can also perform return journey in the next Calendar Year while availing AILTC. However, in case of last Calendar Year of a Block of 4 years, onward AILTC- journey can also be performed on or before 31st December of next Calendar Year and return journey can be performed in the following Calendar year.
