Cabinet approves opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs)
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under the civil/defence sector and the expansion of KV Shivamogga, Karnataka, by adding two additional sections in all classes. This initiative aims to enhance educational access and quality across the country, particularly for the wards of Central Government and Defence employees.

- Total Budget: ₹5872.08 crore over eight years (2025-2033).
- Capital Expenditure: ₹2862.71 crore.

Educational and Employment Impact
- Student Capacity: 960 students per KV, benefiting 82,560 students across 86 schools.
- Employment Generation:
- 5,388 direct permanent jobs, including 33 new posts for KV Shivamogga.
- Employment opportunities for local skilled and unskilled workers through construction and allied activities.
Expansion of Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme
- Existing Infrastructure: 1,256 functional KVs, including three abroad (Moscow, Kathmandu, Tehran), serving approximately 13.56 lakh students.
- Purpose: To provide high-quality, uniform educational facilities for the children of transferable and non-transferable Central Government and Defence employees.
Advancing National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
- Almost all KVs have been designated as PM Shri schools, showcasing NEP 2020 implementation and serving as model institutions.
- Continuous increase in demand for admissions, with a strong reputation for quality teaching and top CBSE board exam performance.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing access to modern, high-quality education for children across the country, fostering educational excellence and supporting national development.
