Importance of Proper Working Conditions and Energy Conservation
The Government of India’s Ministry of Railways, through the Railway Board, has issued a letter regarding the provision of air-conditioning in railway offices, buildings, and other centers. The previous letter dated 01.12.20216 empowered the railways to independently determine the need for air-conditioning with the approval of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) or General Manager (GM).

Vide Board’s letter under reference, directions were issued regarding provision of Air conditioners in Railway offices, buildings, other centres, wherein Railways were empowered to decide on their own the requirement of air-conditioning with approval of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM)General Manager (GM).
- In this regard, it is important to mention that proper working conditions at workplace are important for efficient working of personnel. This includes maintaining proper temperature of the work place which can be achieved at most of the work places through provision of adequate ventilation along with air circulation by pushing stuffy and warmer air out of the room and providing breeze inside.
- Further, it is to mention that energy conservation is one of the strategies being adopted by Indian Railways to achieve its mission of becoming Net Zero Carbon Eimttier by 2030. Therefore, in order to achieve this, any addition of electrical loads should be critically evaluated before installation. However, based on local conditions, Railways can decide on their own the requirement of air-conditioning with approval of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM)/ General Manager (GM).
