Maternity leave and bonus payments to employees

(a) whether it is a fact that labour laws are proposed to be recast to add more leave to maternity from three months to six months;
(b) whether it is also a fact that Government is considering virtually doubling bonus payments to employees and making gratuity portable between jobs; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a):As per Section 5(3) of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, working women is entitled for twelve weeks of maternity leave out of which six weeks before the expected date of delivery. A proposal is under consideration of the Government to increase the existing maternity leave from twelve weeks to twenty four weeks under the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961.
(b) & (c): At present, no proposal under consideration of the Government to double the bonus and to make gratuity portable between jobs.
